Keynote Speaker: Helen Stubbs

Senior Consultant, Gallup

Helen Stubbs supports efforts to measure and improve the lives of college and university students, alumni, faculty and staff. This research focuses on meaningful measures of success to examine how college can best prepare students for fulfilling careers and a life well lived. Gallup’s research has identified crucial undergraduate experiences that align with student well-being and engagement, as well as long-term “life” well-being and professional outcomes. In her role at Gallup, Ms. Stubbs partners with university clients to improve performance on these measures. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Vermont and earned a master’s degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Passion, Purpose, Plan, and Pursue: Meeting Our Students Where They Are

This session will focus on the challenges and opportunities advisors face in helping our students, no matter their age or experience. We will facilitate conversations among new and seasoned university advisors to identify both challenges and best practices with a focus on 'meeting our students where they are'. In addition, we will capture the feedback to help build continuing programs and workshops that will be offered in the upcoming year.

Advising Outside the Box via Interdepartmental Partnerships: How to Develop Personalized Advising Conversations for Transfer &/or Interdisciplinary Students

Looking for ways to guide students who wish to transfer within Pitt or add to their original plan of study? Join representatives from Pitt's undergraduate programs to learn the processes and important people within our respective programs.  Participants will receive a reference guide, as well an opportunity to speak with representatives from various schools.  Our goal is to reveal what programs are available for Pitt undergrads, as well as who to contact when assisting your students.

Pitt Mentoring Network: A personalized mentoring and coaching initiative for students

Explore how mentoring at Pitt is part of the students' experience today, tomorrow, and in the future. This session will provide a backdrop on mentoring best practices within the industry, current programs at Pitt and new initiatives that support mentoring from the Division of Student Affairs, Pitt Athletics, and the Pitt Alumni Association. A brief presentation will familiarize the audience with mentoring opportunities for students followed by a panel of experts to continue conversation about the Pitt Mentoring Network;  created to provide meaningful connections with mentors, foster personal growth, and enhance students' overall collegiate experience.

2:30-3:30 p.m.

Mentoring Students to Embrace the World

Explore how the University Center for International Studies helps undergraduate students internationalize their Pitt experience while at home and abroad. This session will feature intentional advising approaches, signature peer mentorship programs and digital tools designed to personalize students’ ability to integrate curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences. Participants will receive resources to share with advisees as well as materials that may assist in mentoring students to embrace the world. We will also encourage conversation and solicit feedback on future UCIS programming aimed at helping advisors and mentors to connect students with international studies and global engagement opportunities.
